The Editor's Note - Summer 2014

As young women, our bodies, words and actions are policed from the day we are born. We live in a world that is constantly telling us what and how to be. Not only can it be confusing but it is also exhausting to constantly be pulled in different directions. It makes it difficult to be comfortable in your own skin.

Writer and radical feminist Audre Lorde said, "if I didn't define myself for myself, I'd be crunched up into other people's fantasies for me and be eaten alive." That was the inspiration behind the theme of this first issue, "Finding Your Voice." This issue is a display and celebration of the diversity of young Zimbabwean women. From the creative arts to mushroom farming, the issue serves to show that we are all on a journey of self-discovery.

It also represents what Induna as a platform is meant to be. A celebration and exploration of us and the spaces that we occupy. It is important for us to find our voices, embrace who we are and speak - even when our voices tremble.

It all begins with you, trust yourself and let that lead you.

Enjoy!
